Paper Summary:

This essay discusses the various versions of the classic story of Cinderella. The paper begins by describing Charles Perrault's more original version of "The Glass Slipper" as being tailored to an adult audience. It continues to focus on a newer version, David Ellwand's "CinderLilly: A Floral Fairy Tale", which has been rewritten to appeal to a children's audience.

From the Paper:

"My selected modern day version of this fairy tale is David Ellwand's CinderLilly. This version is very extreme in that all the character's are portrayed as a different type of flower. As I had speculated, it begins with the arrival of an invitation to the Sultan's Autumn Ball. Replacing the Prince with the Sultan really seems to have little impact in that no biographical background is given. However, this "Autumn Ball" suggest an innocent get together, where as the prince's ball was solely to find a wife based upon simply her beauty. Naturally sexuality and shallowness aren't things that need to be emphasized in children's books."
