A review of a novel written by an American woman who served as a nurse in the Vietnam War, emphasizing the emotional difficulties of serving in combat.
"Though one might expect to find overwhelming emotion and timidity from the female gender and war, one will be surprised when one reads her story. Rather than reading of women who were terribly frightened - ready to go home to mother and father, one finds women who exhibit grit. Along with grit, these women experience emotions, will power, and determination that for many generations, society has named as "masculine" qualities rather than female."
