"A Nation Under our Feet"
A review of Steven Hahn's historical study "A Nation Under our Feet".
989 words (approx. 4 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2009 Bulgaria

Paper Summary:

The paper describes how Steven Hahn, in "A Nation Under our Feet", attempts to reveal the political struggles of brave, heroic persons in the South. The paper looks at how the author traces numerous significant periods of African American history and comments on the organization of the book, the writing style and descriptions used. The paper asserts that the 2003 Pulitzer Prize is adequate recognition for the author's talent and efforts to present a systematic historical study of important events in American history.

From the Paper:

"The book "A nation under out feet" (2003) by Steven Hahn is mostly about impressive individuals who did remarkable things that plenty of generations should remember. However, the emerging paradox is that most of the names are the names of the forgotten. The author's purpose for writing the book is to present a thorough historical study, implementing a chronological principle in revealing the political struggles of brave, heroic persons in the South. The scope of the book seems quite broad in the sense that the author traces numerous significant periods of African American history, from the typical African American forms of resistance and the antebellum period through the transitional stage leading to the Great Migration."
