"A Hard Frost"
A critical appreciation of the poem "A Hard Frost" by C. Day Lewis.
837 words (approx. 3.3 pages) | 0 sources | MLA | 2003 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper looks at how "A Hard Frost", written by C. Day Lewis deals mainly with how a frost manages to partially blind his sight when looking through a window on a cold frosty day. It discusses how the poem presents a literary transition from past to present and then to future and how the speaker in the poem is a meditating voice on the transitiveness of time and all things.

From the Paper:

"The poem is not particularly addressed to a person or to a specific audience, but to the people in general. It presents two stanzas but it is not a sonnet as it presents 19 verses in total. "A Hard Frost" is clearly separated into two stanzas the first containing 9 and the second ten verses. It is tightly packed in an orderly manner and the form of the poem is that of free verse, this is a good and orderly way of expressing personal ideas which allows more literacy freedom than that of a sonnet. The separate stanzas help the poet deal with different though related ideas. "
