In the traditional American family, women did not work, or they worked in traditionally female occupations, such as nursing, teaching, secretarial, and other jobs that men usually did not want. As such, they were paid less than their male counterparts were. Today, the tradition continues, but it demoralizes women who work in the same capacity as men, but are not paid the same."
