This paper reviews Carole J. Sheffield's artice, "Sexual Terrorism: The Social Control of Women", an article arguing that although many have stated the end of the women's movement, much still needs to be done to improve women's everyday life. The author states Sheffield's definition of sexual terrorism and its use to to frighten and discipline them sexually. The author also discusses Sheffield's explanation on the levels of sexual terrorism and explains Sheffield's views about the women's rights movement being far from over.
From the Paper:
"Sheffield expresses propaganda as a form of promoting ideology. Thus propaganda would be a way of persuading people to perform such act of violence; mainly through mass media. Through the use of mass media images of violence against women can be found just about anywhere. She goes on to say that the worse form of propaganda towards women is pornography. Arguing that pornography erases the line between good and bad women, sending out the message that women's purpose in live is simply for the pleasure of men. Sending the message that the acts of sexual violence can be done to the women in their lives; causing blur between the lines of reality and fantasy."
