Paper Summary:
This paper discusses and reviews Jared Diamond's article, "Why Is Sex Fun?" The paper suggests that while the article has some valid points, the article presents many flaws in Diamond's theory to prove humans as the sexual outcast amongst the animal species. The paper discusses Diamond's arguments and compares his views to those expressed in some of his other articles.
From the Paper:
"Outside this basic family unit in humans lies an even more intricate society in which these groups cooperate with others to further their success as a species. The economic systems, laws, communal territory, and other aspects in human life is not marked as an evolutionary achievement, but another characteristic that goes against the norm of sexuality for Diamond. These economies allow for food, shelter, education, and other necessities for survival to be provided by the parents and maximize the offspring's chances of successfully aging and providing this same parental care for their children. Jared Diamond says in his article, "social behavior has consequences for survival and reproduction", yet at the same time contradicts this statement by calling this form of most advantageous human interaction as an atypical characteristic to animals."
