Selecting a Provost
This paper summarizes and analyzes the article; "Openness and Decision Making in the Search for University Provost" by Linda Andrews.
675 words (approx. 2.7 pages) | 1 source | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how the Andrews article provides a great deal of insight as to how theoretical organizational behaviors are provided, but do not always seem to make logical sense. The paper explains how although the appearance of multiple parties helps to provide the researchers with their qualitative findings, the reality of school policy and provost selection appeared overriding and nefarious.

From the Paper:

"The aim of this article reflects the typology of evaluating the process in which a provost would be selected through various forms of chair meetings and communicative methods. The essence of the article reflects five major points in the evaluation process. The first is that `truth' is not constructed through hard data, but is invented by the organization through a social framework. Secondly, history and social norms are to be evaluated to discern what is need in the selection process of the provost. Third, the individual and the group have differing views and they must be processed. Fourthly, communication must be organized through the perception of the individual in relation to the group through "truth" in a societal framework."
