# 87862
Medicine and the Media
This paper offers a critical examination of five newspaper articles on medical issues.
3,600 words (approx. 14.4 pages) | 2 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains that the role of the mass media in contributing to the knowledge of medicine and medical issues among the general public is a complex one. While articles in newspapers and magazines and perhaps even more influential today, through television and the Internet, can address numerous issues in contemporary medicine and health, the manner in which these media serve as accurate vehicles for critical knowledge of health and our health care system is the subject of debate. This essay argues with reference to five recent articles on a range of medical issues from newspapers, that a common feature of all of these is a lack of criticism of the assumed health models in each article.
