"Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder associated with previous traumatic experience and the cumulative effects of multiple traumatic experiences such as physical abuse, threats of violence, and various other experiences associated with exposure to death and other adverse occurrences capable of generating extreme fear and anxiety at the time of exposure. It is characterized by depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and flashbacks (Breslau, et al 2006)."
