Paper Summary:
This paper reviews Roger Parker's article "The Global HIV/AIDS Pandemic, Structural Inequalities, and the Politics of International Health". The paper summarizes Parker's article about the worldwide AIDS/HIV epidemic and critiques that his views are mostly one-sided, misleading and even ignorant to the truth behind the global AIDS/HIV outbreak. The author also explains why Parker's ideas, although providing a lot of information regarding his philosophies, fail to address all global efforts in the fight against the AIDS/HIV epidemic and show very little insight for other international issues.
From the Paper:
"Roger Parker mentions two worldwide health agencies that strive to control and fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic, UNAIDS and the World Bank. Both push to end this fatal outbreak and allow for a safe and optimistic future. These account for only two of the many global organizations and although major contributors, their efforts would be nearly useless without the vast support from these other agencies. Thousands of organizations worldwide push to stop this deadly disease, making the concern for HIV/AIDS the leading amongst the health related issues. These efforts can go towards many purposes including fundraising, support services, awareness, prevention, research, and treatment, all of which can range from small church groups to world wide humanistic agencies."
