Emotions and Schizophrenia

Emotions and Schizophrenia
An article critique of "Emotions And Schizophrenia: Old Mystery, New Understanding" by Ann King.
988 words (approx. 4 pages) | 2 sources | MLA | 2007 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how a research investigator is obligated to present an issue and or problem that has not been sufficiently resolved in previous research investigative endeavors. The paper examines how King reports that the main emphasis of her research investigation is to report, by way of a longitudinal investigation, the nature of diminished facial expression among schizophrenic patients, in a number of pre-selected studies. The writer concludes that the article authored by King, although topic sensitive and important, did little to advance or foster future research investigative activities, nor did the content enlighten the reader to any great extent.

From the Paper:

"In addition, by stating that the current research was longitudinal the author erred on the side of misrepresentation on two additional accounts: reviewing five studies that did not indicate studies over time; and claiming that the present research was longitudinal when, in fact, the study was simply a review of previous research in the area of facial expressions and schizophrenia. In addition, the author made continual reference to "We have used measures...our laboratory based studies...using a variety of emotional stimuli, we have shown...etc." and, as such, leads the reader to expect her own original research supporting the main article thesis would be presented and documented. Unfortunately this was not the case."
