Children and Anxiety
This paper discusses the research and results in the article "Mother and Child Perceptions of Child Anxiety: Effects of Race, Health Status and Stress."
741 words (approx. 3 pages) | 1 source | APA | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper describes how race, health status, setting and gender affect anxiety levels in children. This paper also analyzes the results of the research which claim that racial differences in children's reporting of anxiety may be due to African-American children's more frequent confrontations with daily societal stressors such as poverty or racism.

From the Paper:

"Among the chronically ill children, the African-American children tended to suffer from sickle cell anemia while the Euro-American children tended to be victims of cancer or immuno-deficiency disorders. The study reported that Euro-American mothers whose children suffered the latter diseases stated that their children felt more anxiety than children with cancer or other disorders. The researchers' primary analysis was that children's reporting of their state anxiety was higher in a medical/dental environment than it was in a restaurant, and that this difference was much larger for unhealthy children."
