Wallace uses his typical style to create an essay based on razor sharp wit and dry sarcasm. He sprinkles the essay with things that are supposed to be fun but in reality are not fun at all. "I have seen sucrose beaches and water a very bright blue. I have seen an all-red leisure suit with flared lapels. I have smelled what suntan lotion smells like spread over 21,000 pounds of hot flesh (Wallace, 1998)."
