The current settlement and legislation has its roots in legislation and studies from the 1960s, which shows just how long the tobacco companies have been fighting for their position that smoking is not addictive and harmful. Reform has changed the way many people think about smoking, but tobacco companies still form one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington, and their stranglehold shows no signs up letting up."
