The U.S. vs. Islam

The U.S. vs. Islam
Argues that the Islamic world is hostile to the U.S. for other reasons besides the war in Iraq.
1,637 words (approx. 6.5 pages) | 5 sources | MLA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

While the news covers the terrorist activities and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, questions that come to mind are: 'Why do Muslims hate America?' and 'Why is Islam more militant than other religions?' The paper examines America's aggressive foreign policy, its presence in Iraq and the rise of Muslim conservatism.

From the Paper:

"It may be too simplistic just to say "we brought it on ourselves". Cooley (2000) says it more effectively. The intellectuals and clerics who sponsor terrorism and hatred of America are fundamentalists, not merely religious, but firmly opposed to "American hegemony in the Middle East and the world" (Cooley 2000 44). The flames were first ignited decades ago. Cooley (2000) blames not only Jimmy Carter but Reagan's CIA director for causing Islamic fundamentalists to foment uprisings and assassinations in Egypt, for one."
