Examines the causes of teenage violence in our society today
2,848 words (approx. 11.4 pages) | 16 sources | MLA | 2004

Paper Summary:

For many years, criminologists, sociologists, law enforcement officials, psychiatrists, and psychologists have tried to identify the factors that produce the juvenile delinquent. This paper argues that, rather than claim delinquency and social pathology as an effect of either nature or nurture factors, it should be regarded as a consequence of certain socio-biological factors.

From the Paper:

"The most important of those negative social factors is the family environment whereby those children who are exposed to unstable and unhealthy family lives do have a very high tendency to develop delinquent behavior. As Jeff Latimer writes in "A Meta-Analytic Examination of Youth and Delinquency, Family Treatment, and Recidivism," the family plays an important role in the development of either delinquent or non delinquent behavior. Latimer additionally specifies that "negative parent-child relationships" are an important cause of psychopathic delinquency (Latimer)."
