Plea bargains are a form of negotiation used in many legal systems around the world. In general, a plea bargain is reached via an informal process of negotiation, in the course of which the prosecutor and the defense counsel reach an out-of-court settlement. Using plea bargaining has become an accepted practice in both Canada and North America, as well as in many other countries. However, just because it has become commonplace does not necessarily imply that it is right.
