The Opium Wars were fought between China and Great Britain between 1840 and 1860. The First Opium War covered the time period of 1840 to 1842. This paper focuses on the First Opium War and analyzes its causes. The paper shows that it was caused not simply by opium but by two other larger factors. The first was the clash of two proud nations that did not respect each other: China and Great Britain.
