Paper Summary:
This paper argues that putting the responsibility of each citizen's health in the hands of the government did not work in other countries and will not work in the United States. Canada, Cuba and the U.K. are used as examples of the failure of socialized medicine. When quality, sanitation and timeliness are sacrificed, the author underscores, the idea of everyone having health care is not logical. The paper states that socialized health care system would destroy the incentive to stay healthy.
From the Paper:
"Besides Gratzer's example of unclean hospitals, it is an epidemic in Great Britain. Hospitals are overrun by people and because of this, only five out of fifty-one hospitals passed the routine hygiene test. One fifth of the hospitals did not even successfully clean their medical instruments, which is dangerous and can spread disease. Many of the hospitals did not successfully take care of infected patients. Infected patients are supposed to be kept isolated and away from healthy patients to prevent the spread of disease and a lot of hospitals failed to do so."
