"Prostitution should not be legalized. Such a public policy would only encourage behavior that undermines the importance of the family, is destructive of other social values, and dangerous to those who participate in it. The benefits claimed by proponents of legalization are not real, while the damage is clear.
Proponents claim that prostitution is a victimless crime, but this is not the case. Especially in the era of AIDs, as Mark A.R. Kleiman notes, there are many victims. Between 1,000 and 10,000 men become infected with AIDs each year because of having sex with female prostitutes, and they can then spread the disease to others. Controlling the spread of the disease can be accomplished only by reducing the number of sexual contacts between prostitutes and customers, reducing the risk associated with (...)"
