This paper will discuss William James and some of the key points that he stressed in his philosophy and ideas within his lifetime and argue against Metaphysics and Nihilism; popular belief systems within his time. Arguments will be made for a contrast and compare discussion of this man's life and work, but argue for the tremendous influence of his philosophies of Functionalism and Pragmatism over these systems of thought.
