Metaphysics and Nihilism

Metaphysics and Nihilism
An argument for William James over metaphysics and nihilism.
2,400 words (approx. 9.6 pages) | 4 sources | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper will discuss William James and some of the key points that he stressed in his philosophy and ideas within his lifetime and argue against Metaphysics and Nihilism; popular belief systems within his time. Arguments will be made for a contrast and compare discussion of this man's life and work, but argue for the tremendous influence of his philosophies of Functionalism and Pragmatism over these systems of thought. By discussing the differing elements of these ideas, perhaps a more objective view may be taken in finding what works in is philosophy and why he was a pioneer in his field.
