1,120 words (approx. 4.5 pages) | 3 sources | APA | 2004 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper explains that marijuana, a psychoactive drug, alters the perception of the user and has negative short-term side effects and more dangerous long-term side effects. The author points out that it causes a chemical dependency in 10-14 percent of users, leading to a greater risk of serious health issues and psychological problems. The paper states that, although it may have some medical uses this has not been proven and typically only serves to ease the negative symptoms of an illness rather than treat the illness.

From the Paper:

"Several activist groups across the country argue that marijuana should be legalized. Some of these groups feel that the medical uses of marijuana should be explored and laws should be lifted to for that reason. Others feel as though marijuana is similar to alcohol and the prohibition of such is wrong and actually leads to increased use. One particular group named The Marijuana Policy Project believes that the prohibition of marijuana leads to increased risk to the user because of the criminal activity associated with its use and that the only solution to the dangers of illegal use of this drug is to make its use legal."

I'm a criminal justice major with a 3.5 GPA in my senior year. I write the majority of my papers in APA but from time to time venture into MLA. Most of my papers have been graded as A to A-. I was an english major for three years before switching to criminal justice in search of something more than a teaching career when I graduate. I'm also a published writer of short fiction and poetry.
