The criminal justice system attempts to control violence by imposing prison sentences ranging anywhere from months to years to life and for especially heinous and premeditated crimes even the most final form of punishment, death. But is capital punishment effective and necessary in dealing with criminals convicted of acts where the courts have established the death penalty as appropriate? Yes, in order to maintain an effective level of public safety and moral confidence in society the death penalty is a necessary..."
