1,645 words (approx. 6.6 pages) | 7 sources | MLA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the controversy surrounding cloning. It looks at the history of cloning and discusses is advantages and disadvantages. The paper argues that we should continue cloning research largely because of the health advances that could be derived from it. The paper also discusses the moral aspects of cloning and issues of animal safety.

From the Paper:

"Cloning as advantageous as it is, still stirs quite a controversy amongst scientists, scholars and activists. How cloning still stirs quite a controversy is somewhat baffling to me. The qualms about cloning are concerns of animal safety, ethical issues, and what I find most ridiculous the notion of human cloning becoming prevalent. As I said earlier animal's safety is always a concern when in relation to their experimentation, however a majority of those experiments are beneficial to progress in human health and understanding. Also how we acquire animals as sustenance creates greater acts of inhumanity and suffering than animal cloning. As a matter of ethics I would say animal cloning is the morally proper thing to do. Imagine if diabetes, Parkinson's and other illnesses are healed because some bold scientist found a way to replicate genes that would replace the damaged ones. It all may be possible but we can never know for sure unless we continue the study of cloning. The idea of humans being cloned is so far from where our knowledge is, it is as farfetched as the idea of "Big Foot". There is not only no conclusive evidence; there is also no theory that could be devised that even makes cloning a feasible idea."
