↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses that both the conservative and liberal positions are premised on preventing social harm. The paper explains the conservative position is that censorship benefits society. The paper, on the other hand, states the liberal viewpoint is that free speech is inviolate.

From the Paper:

"The spate of gun violence in schools, however, has raised questions about the appropriateness of violent images in this "marketplace of ideas." The Conservative side argues that to protect public sensibilities from harm, the government needs to regulate violent images in television, movies and other mass media. The Liberal viewpoint argues that even the most violent images in movies and television constitute free speech, and they should be protected from censorship.
