An examination of the ethics behind the capital punishment laws in the U.S.
Written in 2005; 1,138 words; 4 sources; MLA; $ 39.95
Paper Summary:
This paper describes the arguments for and against the death penalty and the many implications it has for society. It concludes that the death penalty is a difficult but necessary part of life that, while failing to bring total retribution, will ensure a healthier, safer nation in the long run.
From the Paper:
"In relation to deterrence, many advocates also bring up the issue of incapacitation, or the inability of the criminal to commit another crime. The problem with a life sentence is the possibility of early parole, which could allow for another murder. Statistics have proven that criminals convicted of homicide that are released early from prison are 70% more likely to commit another murder. According to the National Bureau of Statistics in capital punishment, 2 out of 3 of the criminals on death row had a prior felony conviction, and more that 1 out of 11 of them had prior homicide convictions ("Capital", 1 of 1).
