"This study will explore the question, "Is early American industrialization an appropriate model for developing nations generally?" The thesis of the study will be that such early American industrialization is not an appropriate model for such developing nations.

William Cronon, in Changes in the Land: Indians, Colonists, and the Ecology of New England, takes a holistic perspective on early American industrialization, and his findings with respect to that early development are decidedly critical.
