Written in 2005; 1,879 words; 5 sources; APA; $ 60.95
Paper Summary:
This paper claims that instead of helping those who have been wronged in the past and leveling the playing field, affirmative action is now creating reverse-discrimination. The paper discusses the intent behind affirmative action and how it is misused and then offers a solution in improving the program. The paper intends that businesses and schools should benefit by having a diverse workforce and student base, but not at the expense of qualified majority applicants.
From the Paper:
"Affirmative Action was first introduced in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson as a method of redressing discrimination that had persisted in spite of civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees. Since then, Affirmative Action has had a long history of use and abuse. Table 1 gives a timeline of action taken regarding Affirmative Action from 1961-2003. (Timeline of Affirmative Action Milestones, n.d.) (The table was abbreviated in order to save space and addresses the issues relevant to the author's subject.) As seen in the table, Affirmative Action was instated with good intentions and for a good reason, but over the years, brought much debate."
