"The following paper will look at the youth sub-culture found in post-industrial societies and explore its origins and some of its key features. In so doing, what will become evident is that youth sub-culture is, in most (but certainly not all) instances, a rebellion against the dominant culture by those who, while no longer children, are unwilling to be participating adults in a structure they perceive as inflexible and unwelcoming. Because it is frequently an act of rebellion, youth sub-culture often assumes a tribal nature: there is, in short, a tribal cohesiveness that is characterized by the group having its own rituals,..."
