This paper discusses the negative portrayal of women in the bible as examined by Barbara McHaffic in her work "Her Story: Women in Christian Tradition". The paper cites examples of the mistreatment of women and how they were subordinate to the hierarchy of the patriarch. The paper then suggests that much of the sexism and misogyny that exists today is a result of prejudices towards women that stem from interpretations of the bible.
From the Paper:
"The bible in context has been translated in a patriarch setting and is therefore subject to biases about women. In the bible women are subordinate to the hierarchy of the patriarch. Even during the course of the first writings in the bible women were treated as second class citizens so their prophetic work has been watered down or completely obliterated or not even incorporated into the bible."
