Women's Health in the Media

This paper takes a look at how women's health issues are portrayed by the media, focusing specifically on a women's publication entitle "Glow". This paper shows how a large percentage of these messages regarding health issues transmitted via the media, are in fact, of no true value.

"Very influential messages are transmitted through all the mass media about women's health. Many of those messages are false but can be combined with authentic health information for women. For example, the structural determinants of health are largely ignored by the magazine so that the impression given to women is that they can achieve control over their own health (Denton & Walters, 1999). This paper will review and analyze the content of a women's magazine entitled "Glow". This magazine contains a specific health section which comprises approximately 25 percent of the entire content. Another section is devoted to fitness and nutrition. "
