Paper Summary:

This film uses essays by Walter Benjamin, T.S. Eliot and Gertrude Stein in which the authors put forth a number of art aesthetic criterion to assess the value and legitimacy of "great" for three films: 1) "The Shawshank Redemption", 2) "Fight Club" and 3) "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."

From the Paper:

"The theories on art posited by Walter Benjamin, T.S. Eliot and Gertrude Stein are useful in formulating aesthetic criteria by which to assess contemporary works of art for their value and legitimacy as great works. Untested by time or public acceptance, new works of art require some aesthetic criteria by which they may be judged as having value or legitimacy. Benjamin contends that in the age of mechanical reproduction, any aesthetic of art must be based on the political."
