This essay enumerates the advantages of using electronic text to create impact over other media. The essay uses the movie "American Photography: A Century of Images" to demonstrate the power of the visual image. Finally, the essay describes and analyzes the author's own web site and shows how the various components of the site serve various functions.
From the Paper:
"Today, there are virtually billions of websites on the internet that all try to seize the attention of the electronic audience and keep them interested. Visual texts through an electronic medium include bonus attractions that other mediums are not capable of. These bonus attractions consist of multiple sounds, pictures, and viewer interaction, all of which intensify the message. The consolidation of these effects increases the viewer's identification with the appeal. Other benefits of electronic text include speed and accuracy. In this fast paced world, it is necessary to portray condensed, more specific information to the viewer and provide links and bullets for the viewer to spot-read or skim the pertinent information. Electronic text fulfills all these dynamic desires. Ultimately, electronic text is a merger of three mediums (written, oral, aural, and visual) that encompass a wider array of influence."
