Violence and Colonial Problems
This paper argues the futile nature of violence to solve colonial problems.
675 words (approx. 2.7 pages) | 3 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains that, initially, it may appear that military might is the greater way to achieve colonies by imperial agitators, but this policy cannot last for long. The author points out that violence disrupts the economy and civil law, which results in greatly lowered productivity for both sides of the conflict. This paper discusses Gandhi as an example of how non-violent propaganda is a more viable approach to confronting colonial liberation.

From the Paper:

"This study examines the nature of violent struggle within colonized geographical areas in relation to imperialism. The implementation of violence by the aggressor on smaller countries is ultimately met with equal violence from insurgence within the occupied country. This counter violence is ineffective, essentially giving the stronger occupier a greater advantage in quelling revolt and bringing greater destruction to the region. By using examples of peaceable means to engaging imperialist aggression, this study discusses Gandhi to show how non-violent propaganda is a more viable approach to confronting colonial liberation."
