1,566 words (approx. 6.3 pages) | 2 sources | MLA | 2006

Paper Summary:

The author examines the theory and rationale behind the Bible's statements referring to the underdog. The author questions the fairness of helping the weak and what this example teaches us and how to relate it to today's society. The author concludes with his understanding of what the weaknesses teach people today.

From the Paper:

"This is not God at his cruelest yet, though. God's plagues continue to get worse, and he continues to bully the Egyptians with his power, and show favoritism to the weak and powerless Israelites. His worst and most viscous plague is the death of the first-born Egyptian sons: "For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast" (Exodus 12:12). God is clearly viscous and powerful in this line, and shows that he is very willing and capable of inflicting vengeance on the powerful Egyptians in favor of the Israelites. "The Lord is a man of war" (Exodus 15:3). Within these actions, we see that the Israelites do strike back, but they are only able to do so with the help of God's power. The plagues are significant in that they reveal God's favoritism of the weak over the strong. "
