Victorian Women Writers

Victorian Women Writers
A look at the issues of gender for Victorian women writers.
1,945 words (approx. 7.8 pages) | 6 sources | 2001 Israel

Paper Summary:

This paper concerns itself with the issue of gender differentiation in the Victorian society from a literary point of view. The main focus is on how women were viewed in historical and social context, how women writers placed themselves in this area as authors and how they expressed the gender issue in their literary works.

From the Paper:

'The 19th century saw the rise of a new literary form, the novel, which we can say dominates this sphere of artistical activity until our days. As Robin Gilmour expressed: "The supreme literary achievement of the Victorian age is in its prose fiction. However much we may value the Victorian achievement in poetry, it is in the novels of Dickens and George Eliot, Thackeray and Trollope, Charlotte and Emily Bronte and Hardy, that the creative strengths of the period are most powerfully concentrated."

Currently I hold a BA in History, but this will not end here. The one and only world I can see myself in the future is the academic world. History is my lifelong passion and I do not have to be shy about being good in it. I invest the necessary time and effort in research in order to keep it accurate and well documented. One last, but not least, point to mention: I never received average grades on my work.
