The paper examines the novel, "The Stone Angel", by Margaret Laurence. It provides a commentary on the troubled life of a woman who is nearing the end of her long life. Hagar did not live a normal life, as she had to live through more than her own share of tragedies in her ninety years on Earth.From the Paper:
"Although it is too late for her to do anything about it, Hagar has realized that maybe part of her did not want to be completely independent all the time. Maybe part of her wanted to be able to rely on someone else at some point in her life. Her stubborn life, which she mistook for strength, was not the type of life that she truly should have been living. She was able to refrain from crying at the funerals of both of her brothers, her father, and her former husband, which she found to be quite odd.
