Paper Summary:
This paper examines the book, which is a comprehensive history of the South during the turmoil of the reconstruction that ultimately changed the South and the rest of the country.
From the Paper:
"To prove his points, Coulter concentrates on primary sources that came from Southern newspapers, government documents, and manuscripts. His viewpoint may seem faulty at times but this can be contributed to the heavy reliance on southern democratic sources. He leaves out for the most part the sources and opinions of northern sources of the time. His interpretation of the reconstruction period is organized topically then by the normal chronological that many see in most historical research and books. This seems to be done to highlight parts of time with concentrating on themes rather then specific time points."
