"William Faulkner is often criticized for his racist remarks and racist portrayal of African Americans in his novels. It is believed that Faulkner was very much a product of his times and thus made no particular effort to stay away from generalizations and projected blacks as illiterate 'monkeys' who were rather 'insignificant'. However this view can be challenged to certain extent by closely studying few African American characters in The Sound and The Fury, however there are some other instances in the same novel that reinforce the critics' view of Faulkner."
