Paper Summary:

This paper is an analysis of the poem, "The River" by Canadian, Frederick George Scott. Focusing on his analogies to his surroundings, his rhymes in "The River" exemplify his love of both nature and the solitudes offered by nature. Arguably, the paper shows that it may also one of his more distinctly Canadian poems as it marks a very specific and geographic time and place.

From the Paper:

"Canadian poet Frederick George Scott was born in Montreal in 1861. Just short of his 83rd birthday, he died in Quebec City in early 1944. In between, and among several other things, he became known by contemporaries as "The Poet of the Laurentians" (Old Poetry Archive). Over the course of his career, he was also known for his love of fellow Canadians and distinguished war service while having the "vision and enthusiasm of an Imperialist" (Old Poetry Archive). Poems like "Hymn of Empire" spoke more to his clerical career. "
