From the Paper:
"According to the Encarta dictionary "attention" is defined as a notice or interest. Charles Derber discusses the different ways certain people gain interest from others in his book "The Pursuit of Attention." Along with the ways individuals gain attention he breaks it down into different social classes, gender, and different situations that we someday my encounter in our own lives. In the first chapter he gives us actual examples to help us grasp the concept of "Shift Response" and "Support Response." Using these two types of responses we create different unique styles to respond to each other's questions and comments. These responses also allow you to act professional and not rude when talking to people you have never met before."
