A discussion of the context from which the new testament was compiled following the end of the "Old Testament" era culminating in the "Jewish War" of 70 A.D. The author investigates the personalities included in the Bible and contrasts the belief system of the early Hebrews and the early Christians. Furthermore the several different interpretations of the Bible are discussed.
From the Paper:
"In around 2000 B.C., there lived some peoples who were called either Habiru or Hapiru (Orlinsky, 17). These people were probably Nomads and craftspeople who instigated wars, and took prisoners from surrounding areas (Orlinksy, 17). They also may have hired themselves out either as slaves or as mercenaries. The Biblical Hebrews may be associated with the Habiru because the Bible accounts for places that are congruent with the history of these people (Orlinsky, 17). It is believed that the Hebrew roots begin in Genesis with the birth of Abraham in an area which is in southern Mesopotamia (Orlinsky, 18). However, the Bible accounts for a vast number of people who are from different areas and are representative of Hebrews in different periods (Orlinksky, 19). The people who are Hebrews of the Bible may be Habirus who were later called the "Children of Israel" (Orlinsky, 21)."
