Arguably the landmark book for the women's movement within the Twentieth Century, Betty Friedan's publication of "The Feminine Mystique" in 1963 investigated the role of women in society. Friedan's views, which have since become a key element in directing modern feminist theory, were revolutionary at the time and helped promote a better understanding of the then- current roles that women were required to play in society.
