"FedEx (FDX: N) was founded in 1971 by Fred Smith. The company introduced overnight package delivery service, later adding envelopes. A hub-and-spoke model was developed to facilitate overnight delivery, a concept that was unheard of before FedEx. Volumes grew from the beginning, and the company was able to expand rapidly. This was followed by international expansion (FedEx operates in most countries in the world today). The company has added ground services (Home Delivery), freight services, and the Kinko's chain of office services outlets (now renamed FedEx Office). Tracking is another key component of the FedEx service, allowing customers to follow the progress of their packages through the system."
