Paper Summary:
The paper reveals that Exxon lost a lot of customers and its reputation as a result of the Exxon Valdez oil disaster that killed many animals and affected many people's employment. The paper explains what Exxon could have done differently to avoid the chaos, confusion and frustration. The paper also emphasizes how, not only was this considered to be the largest oil spillage disaster in the world, it can also be considered as the worst managed crisis that mankind has ever known.
From the Paper:
"The Exxon Valdez disaster was considered to be one of the worst oil spills in United States history. This disaster occurred on March 24, 1989 when an Exxon Valdez oil tanker hit a reef in Prince William Sound in Alaska while it was on its way to California. This wreck caused more than 11,000,000 gallons of crude oil to leak out into the ocean, killing thousands of birds, fish, and other wildlife. Soon after the wreck occurred, a strong storm began and caused the spilled oil to be spread over 1400 miles and over three feet thick."
