Written in 2005; 710 words; 1 sources; MLA; $ 25.95
Paper Summary:
This paper examines the idea that Montresor may have killed Fortunado without just cause in the tale "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe. The paper looks at the events of the story and discusses symbolism within the story, as well as the foreshadowing of events to come.
From the Paper:
"The walls of the vault are lined with bones from Montresors of the past, adding to the hell-like state of the dark vaults. The bones evoke Fortunado to ask about Montresor's family shield. Montresor informs him that it is a foot crushing a serpent which is biting the heel of the foot. This could symbolize how Fortunado is the serpent with all of his biting insults and Montresor will crush him. At this point in the story, the reader is still forced to believe that Fortunado has insulted Montresor in some way."
