Paper Summary:

This paper critically discusses the notion that '...theoretical or practical perspective which sees technology as having independent effects upon people and organizations is misguided.' Firstly, the writer elaborates on the pivotal points of the discussion with an evaluation on the introduction of technology. The discussion is then followed by a critical evaluation of the technological perspective in the light of how technology affects formal and informal group behavior. Finally, the writer concludes the paper by briefly evaluating the motives that led to the development of the ideas discussed in the paper.

From the Paper:

"Groups form the structure of an organization and the overall organizational climate is in-part dependant on the interaction within these formal and informal group structures. The characteristic of group dynamics is what can lead towards success or failure of a project and subsequently organizational goals. Groups are made up of individuals who possess differing skills, experiences and knowledge. The major area of concern is the dynamics that underpin a group's activities. There is a lot of research to highlight the use of groups in a problem solving environment."
