Tamar's Rape

Tamar's Rape
A look at the rape of King David's daughter, Tamar, in the Bible.
1,519 words (approx. 6.1 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This essay presents an analysis of the Bible's story of Tamar's rape. It shows the involvement of every character in the story, proving that, while Amnon was the one who raped Tamar, all of the blame should not be cast on him alone. Also, the paper sheds light on how the story of Tamar's rape is really just the Bible telling how Absalom overthrew the throne.

From the Paper:

"If he had loved her, he would have never wanted her to go through the dishonor of losing her virginity and not being married. Instead, however, he saw her as nothing but a sexual object and did not care about the consequences, again which were well known. When he had her removed from the room, he did not even call her by her own name, insulting her more and further making her just an object. Her presence was a reminder of his weakness, that he could not control his temptation. It was not guilt over what he had done to Tamar that had consumed him so much, but the hate for his own vulnerability."
