826 words (approx. 3.3 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how a particular company needs a more effective management of the supply chain that may be accomplished by relocating the production facility. The paper also discusses how, in order to maintain customer satisfaction and service, the flow of production and shipments must be drastically improved. The paper advises the company to implement both material requirements planning and enterprise resource planning systems as well as the just-in-time (JIT) system of inventory management.

Outline:
The Quest for Improvement
Customer Satisfaction and Production
The Efficiency of Control
Conclusion

From the Paper:

"The problems with the company lie namely in the organization of the supply-chain, alongside the administrative organization which underlies this and provides the infrastructure for the operations. In consideration of this, the developmental design of all products must be controlled, and thereby local. The plant in Mexico has caused shipments to run late by consistently delivering late on their orders, thereby putting a kink in the overall scheme of operations. The production facility in Mexico should be relocated to the Central Warehouse through which a majority of their shipments exit, thereby enabling immediate access, both of orders and the staff, enabling greater control of both outputs. A methodical and well-organized design development process lies at the heart of an effective company, as it enables the reduction of developmental costs and cycles while meeting customer quality requirements."
